Shari Welch, M.D.
Dr. Welch has been a practicing emergency physician for 20 years and a quality improvement consultant for the last 10 years. Dr. Welch has been a guest speaker at the Urgent Matters Conference, the ED Benchmarks Conference, the EDPMA Solutions Summit, VHA regional meetings, the AHRQ's national meeting and ACEP national meetings. In addition, she is the course director for the Good to Great ED Management course. Her quality improvement research has been published in numerous journals. She is currently a research fellow at the Intermountain Institute for Health Care Delivery Research. She is the author of Quality Matters: Solutions for the Safe and Efficient Emergency Department and co-author of Leadership for Smooth Patient Flow. She also writes a monthly column entitled, Quality Matters, which focuses on improving ED operations in the widely read publication, Emergency Department News. |

Kevin Klauer, DO, EJD
Dr. Klauer is the Director of Quality and Clinical Education with Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) in Canton, Ohio, where he is responsible for the development of quality assurance and educational programs for over 500 emergency physicians and midlevel providers. He serves on EMP's leadership team and, as such, participates in decision making relative to over 50 emergency departments and urgent care centers nationwide. Dr. Klauer has served as an emergency department director and regional director with EMP and regularly consults on operational improvement and performance improvement within their group. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for EMP and their malpractice insurance company. He is also the Director of EMP's educational division, The Center for Emergency Medical Education, and is the course director for three annual risk management conferences and is co-director for the National Emergency Medicine Board Review course. Dr. Klauer also serves as Editor in-Chief of Emergency Physicians Monthly.
